Preview: Amanda Elzy Panthers vs. Booneville Blue Devils

The Amanda Elzy Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Booneville Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The pair might be coming in a bit winded given how much these teams ran in their prior games.

Last Thursday, it was a hard-fought game, but Amanda Elzy had to settle for a 24-22 loss against Humphreys County. Despite 300 more yards than Humphreys County, Amanda Elzy couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

Despite the loss, Amanda Elzy got a solid performance out of Jevarion Glover, who threw for 409 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 13.2 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 106 yards on only 13 carries. Isaac Harris also helped out as he racked up 118 receiving yards.

Meanwhile, Booneville entered their tilt with Tanner with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Booneville blew past Tanner 48-21 on the road. The result was nothing new for Booneville, who have now won six matchups by 23 points or more so far this season.

Zion Nunn was his usual excellent self, rushing for 230 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.5 yards per carry. Nunn was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 61 yards. Tapp Fraiser also helped out as he racked up 101 rushing yards.

This is the second loss in a row for Amanda Elzy and nudges their season record down to 5-4. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 14.0 points per game. As for Booneville, their victory was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 8-2.

Friday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Amanda Elzy has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 196.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Booneville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 148.7 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
