Basketball Recap: Weslaco East Falls Despite Big Games from Elaine Hernandez and Angel Nwanne

Weslaco East lost against Mission back in November of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Wildcats took a 33-25 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles.

Despite the defeat, Weslaco East had strong showings from Angel Nwanne, who posted eight points along with seven rebounds and three steals, and Elaine Hernandez, who put up seven points. Nwanne is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last six games she's played dating back to last season. Evania Hernandez also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Mission got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was VICTORIA GUZMAN out in front who went 7-for-10 en route to 14 points and three steals. CASSANDRA SALAS was another key player, shooting 44% from the field to rack up 15 points and three steals.

Weslaco East's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Mission, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-3.

Looking ahead, Weslaco East will square off against Edinburg North at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mission, they will take on La Feria at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
