Baseball Game Recap: Ponca City Wildcats vs. Newkirk Tigers

Ponca City extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 13-24 in the process. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 10-4 to the Newkirk Tigers, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2015.

As for Newkirk, they moved to 11-13-1 with that victory, which also ended their five-game losing streak. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.

For Newkirk's part, the team relied heavily on Grady Wood, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Wood is becoming a predictor of the Tigers' success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is 2-1 (and 9-12-1 when he doesn't). Kyson Thiel was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Ponca City will welcome Morrison at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Newkirk, they will face off against Tonkawa at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
