Football Recap: Jserra Catholic Falls Short Against Ranked Servite + How To Watch

JSerra Catholic faced Servite in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The game between the Lions and the Friars didn't end well, with the Lions falling 43-26. The Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

JSerra Catholic's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Clark Cokley, who picked up 126 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Cokley's receiving production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 113 receiving yards. Gino Wang was another key player, having thrown for 255 yards and two touchdowns.

JSerra Catholic didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Rocco Tompkins and Zacarias Nickerson. Tompkins also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with 18.

Servite got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Steele Holcomb out in front who rushed for 89 yards and a pair of scores on only nine carries. That's the most rushing yards Holcomb has posted since back in August of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kale Murphy, who threw for 216 yards and two TDs.

JSerra Catholic now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Servite, their win bumped their record up to 5-2.

Looking ahead, JSerra Catholic will face off against Orange Lutheran at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Lions will be up against the Lancers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 28.14 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Servite, they will take on Mater Dei at 7:00 p.m. on the 18th.
