Softball Game Preview: Jena Giants vs. Sterlington Panthers

The Jena Giants will challenge the Sterlington Panthers on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Jena 2.8, Sterlington 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Jena is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Berwick a 5-0 shutout. The Giants haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sterlington). They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over Winnfield on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won nine games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Jena's victory bumped their record up to 27-5. As for Sterlington, their win bumped their record up to 18-5.

Jena was able to grind out a solid victory over Sterlington when the teams last played back in April of 2025, winning 7-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Giants since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
