Basketball Recap: Gadsden City Titans vs. Oxford Yellow Jackets

The Gadsden City Titans waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They snuck past Oxford with a 37-31 win. This was payback for Gadsden City, who suffered a 49-41 loss the last time these two teams met.

Gadsden City's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaedyn Sharp led the charge by scoring 11 points along with three blocks and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sharp has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Destiny Whiteside, who scored 11 points along with four steals.

Oxford's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ava Thomas, who scored six points along with six rebounds and two steals. Shay Montgomery was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with nine rebounds.

Gadsden City pushed their record up to 11-15 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Oxford, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-12.

Gadsden City has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on January 29th. As for Oxford, they will head out on the road to challenge the Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Spring Garden knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine matches -- so hopefully the Yellow Jackets like a good challenge.
