Baseball Recap: Xaverian Takes a Loss

Xaverian fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Kellenberg Memorial on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Firebirds by a score of 3-2. The Clippers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Firebirds apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2023.

Jordan Steiger was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched.

At the plate, Xaverian saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Danny Cronin, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. Cronin is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

Xaverian's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-5. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only 1.33 runs. As for Kellenberg Memorial, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Xaverian will challenge St. John's Prep at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Kellenberg Memorial, they will take on St. Mary's at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Kellenberg Memorial is facing St. Mary's at the right time seeing as St. Mary's is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
