Softball Recap: Smithville Comes Up Short

Smithville suffered their closest loss since May 13, 2025 on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Waynedale Golden Bears by a score of 7-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Golden Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-12 on Monday.

Greenly Burns made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Kiersten Ross, who went 3-for-4 with one run.

Smithville has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-15 record this season. As for Waynedale, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-16.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Smithville will take on Aquinas in a tournament on Wednesday. The Knights have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.81 runs per game on average), something the Smithies will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Waynedale, they will be taking part in a tournament against United at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Golden Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Golden Bears' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
