Baseball Recap: Checotah's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Checotah made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Mannford, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Wildcats blew past the Pirates 13-5 on Thursday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Wildcats as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Mason Rainbolt made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off only two hits. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, Checotah let Treagan DuVall and Charles Collins run wild. DuVall scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Collins scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave DuVall a new career-high in RBI (three). Camden Ferguson was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Checotah always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .559. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive games.

The win was their first at home , bumping their record up to 4-15. As for Mannford, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-13.

Looking ahead, Checotah will face off against Stilwell at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Indians have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.43 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Mannford, they will challenge Glenpool at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
