Softball Recap: Princeton Takes a Loss

Princeton had lost three straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 1-8 to make it four. They fell 10-5 to the Walnut Hills Eagles. If the Vikings were looking for revenge after losing 8-3 to the Eagles when the teams met back in March of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Walnut Hills, their win ended a three-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-4. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.

For Walnut Hills' part, Evie Denen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up five earned runs off seven hits. That's the most strikeouts Denen has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Selina Rios, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI, one triple, and one run. Becca Zilliox was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Looking ahead, Princeton will be playing in front of their home fans against Edgewood at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Cougars will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last. As for Walnut Hills, they will head out on the road to face off against Loveland at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.62 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
