The Wesley Chapel Wildcats are taking a road trip to face off against the Berkeley Prep Buccaneers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Wesley Chapel barely beat Springstead the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Wesley Chapel's pitchers stepped up to hand Springstead a 10-0 shutout on Thursday. The game marked the Wildcats' most dominant win of the season so far.
Eli Chana tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Nolan Hartley was a standout: he scored two runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Dylan Pabon, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.
Wesley Chapel was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Berkeley Prep got their first taste of in-conference action this week and they started things off strong. They put the hurt on Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate with a sharp 12-0 victory on Tuesday. Considering the Buccaneers' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Berkeley Prep also got a great performance from Nolan Parmer as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Parmer a new career-low in hits (zero).
At the plate, Mason Warren was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That run marked the first that he scored this season. Josh Herrmann was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Berkeley Prep is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. Wesley Chapel's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Wesley Chapel has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Berkeley Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
