Softball Recap: Boone County Takes a Loss

Boone County extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping their season record down to 3-16 in the process. They came up short against the Conner Cougars, falling 17-7. That's two games in a row now that the Rebels have lost by exactly ten runs.

As for Conner, their record now sits at 7-11. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Conner's part, Bayli Bell looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

On the hitting side, Averie Lightner and Kayla Ortiz did most of the damage at the plate: Lightner went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Ortiz went 1-for-4 with five stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs Lightner has posted since back in March. Bre Meredith was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs.

Coming up, Boone County will square off against Highlands at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bluebirds will roll in looking for their 12th straight win, something the Rebels surely won't give up without a fight. Conner has already played their next match (against Harrison County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
