Basketball Game Preview: Trinity Wolves vs. Modoc Braves

Trinity has gone 8-2 against Modoc recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Trinity Wolves will face off against the Modoc Braves at 12:45 p.m. Trinity is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.2 points per game this season.

Trinity is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They walked away with a 41-29 victory over Quincy. Given the Wolves' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 232nd in California, while the Trojans are ranked 471st in California), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Trinity's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Elizabeth Carpenter, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and ten rebounds. That's the most boards Carpenter has posted since back in December of 2024. Elsie Storckman was another key player, putting up 13 points and five rebounds.

Trinity was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Quincy only eight assists.

Meanwhile, Modoc had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 34.3 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Trojans by a score of 43-34.

Trinity better focus on containing Jordyn Sandage and Katie Erquiaga as the pair were huge in Modoc's win. Sandage scored 12 points along with seven boards and four steals, while Erquiaga put up ten points in addition to seven rebounds and five steals. Erquiaga has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Mackenzie Diven, who had three points and seven boards.

Trinity has been performing well recently as they've won 14 of their last 17 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.5 points over those games. Modoc's record now sits at 22-8.

Trinity was able to grind out a solid win over Modoc in their previous meeting back in January, winning 47-39. The rematch might be a little tougher for Trinity since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
