Baseball Recap: Hammond Takes a Loss

Hammond was the 6-2 winner over Covington when they last played one another on Saturday, but their luck changed this time around. The Tornadoes lost 9-3 to the Lions on Tuesday. Surprisingly, this marked the third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.

Donald Weber made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Hammond is 2-1 when Weber posts two or more runs, but 6-18 otherwise. Lathan Ducote also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Hammond has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-19 record this season. As for Covington, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 9-17.

Coincidentally, Hammond and Covington will both be playing Ponchatoula the next time they take the field. The Lions will host the Green Wave at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, while the Tornadoes will host them at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
