Softball Recap: Monsignor McClancy Gets the Win

While Monsignor McClancy's victory against Cardinal Spellman wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Crusaders sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over the Pilots on Thursday. That's two games straight that the Crusaders have won by exactly two runs.

Taylor Roth spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits.

On the hitting side, Kaiya Sciacco was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Jazlene Rivera was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Monsignor McClancy has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games. As for Cardinal Spellman, they dropped their record down to 2-9 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Monsignor McClancy will challenge rival Mary Louis Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Cardinal Spellman is set to square off against their familiar foe Kennedy Catholic at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
