Softball Game Preview: Washington Warriors vs. Mitchell Kernels

Washington is a perfect 3-0 against Mitchell since May of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Warriors will head out on the road to challenge the Kernels at 5:30 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Washington will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Tea on Thursday. The Warriors were the clear victors by a 15-2 margin over the Titans.

Meanwhile, Mitchell hadn't done well against Watertown recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Kernels came out on top against the Arrows by a score of 7-4. The victory was familiar territory for the Kernels, who have now won three games in a row.

Rylee Jennings spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Matteah Graves was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Washington's win was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 1-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Mitchell, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Everything went Washington's way against Mitchell in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Washington made off with a 13-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
