League recap: Newport climbs in standings with win

Newport was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from ninth to seventh in Division VI. The Tigers defeated Mascoma 21-14 earlier in the week.

Newfound Regional extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Raymond, 34-14. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.

Newfound Regional's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jared Dearborn threw for 75 yards and RJ Silva had 21 yards receiving. On the ground Tyler Maviki chipped in 232 yards. Doug Payne helped Newfound Regional's passing attack out by catching three balls for 19 yards.

Silva made the biggest impact on defense this week as Greg Dalzell's team topped the Rams. The defensive back pulled down one interception.

Newfound Regional's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Bears feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Dearborn has thrown for 468 yards and six touchdowns this season, while Devin Fields has 13 catches for 201 yards. Maviki leads the league in rushing with 831 yards.

A big matchup in Division VI this week will be when Campbell takes on Franklin. As it stands, Campbell is in second, while the Tornadoes are in fourth.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Paul Hickey's team takes on Franklin. Campbell has allowed 42 points this season, while Greg Husband's team has given up 32.

Campbell took down Bishop Brady 49-7 last week, the largest margin of any game.
