Softball Game Preview: Woodson Cavaliers vs. South County Stallions

Woodson is 1-9 against South County since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Cavaliers will square off against the Stallions at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with four losses in a row, Woodson turned things around against Fairfax on Wednesday. They walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Lions.

Meanwhile, South County came tearing into Wednesday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 19-9 margin over the Titans. Considering the Stallions have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Ava Abromavage, who went 4-for-5 with two triples, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiley Gregory, who went 3-for-5 with four runs, one triple, and two RBI.

South County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .459. They are 8-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Woodson's record now sits at 4-13. As for South County, their record is now 11-7.

Woodson suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to South County in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Cavaliers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
