Football Recap: Roncalli Royals vs. Southport Cardinals
Roncalli had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. Everything went their way against the Southport Cardinals as the Roncalli Royals made off with a 37-13 victory. With the Royals ahead 31-0 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Roncalli was led to victory by Jayden Buchanan and Zach Dozier. Buchanan threw for 288 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 13.7 yards per attempt, while Dozier gained 150 total yards and two touchdowns. A healthy portion of that aerial production (101 yards to be exact) went to Drew Nelson, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Roncalli was moving up and down the field and finished the game with 423 total yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southport only gained 201.
