Game recap

ALBANY, Ga. - Special teams carried Monroe (Albany, Ga.) to a 56-29 victory over Albany (Ga.) on Saturday as the return units contributed two touchdowns. The special teams of the Tornadoes scored on two punt returns.

After taking the lead on a touchdown run in the first quarter, Monroe led 16-13 at the half.

By the end of the third, MHS found itself trailing by seven points as the Indians captured the lead thanks to two scores in the quarter. Albany scored on a two-point conversion and a kick return in the quarter.

A 16-point fourth quarter solidified the win for the Tornadoes, as they pushed the final margin of victory to 27.

The victory avenged Monroe's close 14-13 loss to AHS last season.

The win was a nice bounce back for Monroe, which lost to Westover last week, 26-13. The victory ended Monroe's two-game losing streak. The loss was the fourth in a row for the Indians.

Monroe (2-3) will play a AAAA Region 1 game against Americus-Sumter next week, while Albany (1-4) will take on Dougherty also in a AAAA Region 1 game.
