Garces Memorial hadn't done well against Centennial recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Rams skirted past the Golden Hawks 3-1. This was a revenge game for the Rams: when they faced off against the Golden Hawks last Wednesday, they had to take a 1-0 defeat.

Jaiden Gutierrez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Reese Bowles was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Izzy Frye was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Garces Memorial's record is now 11-3. As for Centennial, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.

Garces Memorial and Centennial should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Rams (ranked 103rd) will meet North (ranked 418th) at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Garces Memorial 1.3, the Stars 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Centennial will face off against Bakersfield at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank advantage (115 vs. 516).
