Baseball Game Recap: Wendover Wildcats vs. Green River Pirates

Wendover extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 16 on Saturday, dropping them down to 0-6. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 18-1 to the Green River Pirates, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pirates apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2021.

As for Green River, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-7. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Green River's part, Jason Hernandez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Hernandez was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in October of 2024.

In other batting news, Skyler Davis was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those hits marked the first that he has got this season. Another player making a difference was Gabriel Quintana, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wendover will challenge Altamont at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Green River, they will take on Valley at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Buffalos' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Pirates' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
