The Woodland Park Panthers are taking a road trip to square off against the St. Mary's Pirates at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Woodland Park is coming into the game hot, having won their last seven games.
Woodland Park proved they can win big last Monday (they won by 30) and last Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over SkyView Academy.

Link Bryden and Cody Becker were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Bryden tossed 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Meanwhile, Becker pitched 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Bryden went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double, while Becker went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cody Fries, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Landon Bain was another, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Woodland Park was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as SkyView Academy only posted a batting average of .214.
Meanwhile, St. Mary's came up short against Kent Denver on Thursday and fell 15-11. The Pirates have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Isaac Velazquez led a balanced group of hitters, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Cole Eberhardt, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Woodland Park pushed their record up to 10-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for St. Mary's, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Woodland Park has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like St. Mary's struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
