Softball Game Preview: St. Pauls Bulldogs vs. Fairmont Golden Tornadoes

St. Pauls and Fairmont are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Golden Tornadoes at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Pauls knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Fairmont likes a good challenge.

Last Friday, St. Pauls got the win against Red Springs by a conclusive 15-3. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Red Devils recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

St. Pauls got a great performance from Zavannah Locklear as she pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Angel Purcell, who fired off two home runs, eight RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4. Those eight RBI gave her a new career-high. Ke'Mya Baldwin was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

St. Pauls kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Fairmont lost 7-1 to Midway on Friday. The Golden Tornadoes have struggled against the Raiders recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.

St. Pauls' win bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Fairmont, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.

St. Pauls took their victory against Fairmont when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 8-1 score. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Golden Tornadoes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
