Preview: Patuxent Panthers vs. Westlake Wolverines
Patuxent is 0-7 against Westlake since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Patuxent Panthers will head out on the road to square off against the Westlake Wolverines at 5:30 p.m. Patuxent is hoping to put an end to an 11-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Patuxent suffered their biggest loss since December 6, 2023 on Friday. They suffered a rough 50-28 loss at the hands of Northern. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Patuxent has suffered against Northern since February 14, 2018.
Autumn Kern was Patuxent's leading scorer, having posted seven points. Kern also led the team in assists with four.
Meanwhile, Westlake's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They were dealt a 63-34 loss at the hands of Huntingtown. Westlake found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and post 17 fewer assists than your opponent.
Despite the loss, Westlake saw an underclassman step up: Caila Alexander scored eight points along with two steals. Akeylah McPherson was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Patuxent's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 3-8. As for Westlake, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.
Wednesday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Patuxent have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 27.9 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Westlake, though, as they've been averaging only 31.1 rebounds per game. Given Patuxent's sizeable advantage in that area, Westlake will need to find a way to close that gap.
Patuxent was dealt a bruising 74-32 defeat at the hands of Westlake in their previous matchup back in February of 2022. Can Patuxent avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
