Germantown took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Saturday. They blew past the Houston Mustangs 44-23. This was payback for the Red Devils, who suffered a 36-30 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Jourdin Shelton had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 93 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 210 yards and a pair of TDs on only 18 passes. Kavious Record was another key player, rushing for 76 yards and one score on only seven carries.
Germantown's run defense was locked in: Houston could only muster 3.4 yards per carry. While two picked up at least nine total tackles, Payden Ballard stood above the rest. He forced one fumble and made nine total tackles. Germantown didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged eight.
Despite the loss, Houston saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Canon Day threw for 122 yards and a pair of TDs.
Germantown didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 39-6 win against Bartlett on the 29th. As for Houston, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 41-35 defeat against Whitehaven on the 29th.
