Baseball Recap: Shawnee Heights Comes Up Short

Shawnee Heights had lost three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 12-4 to make it four. They fell 6-3 to the Piper Pirates. The Thunderbirds were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pirates apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Brody Cooper was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits.

On the hitting side, Shawnee Heights saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carson Garner, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.

As for Piper, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games.

On Piper's side, Carter Laird spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Eli Utter, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs. Judah Monhollon was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Shawnee Heights beat Piper by a score of 9-2 later that day.
