Softball Game Preview: Somerset Bulldogs vs. Devine Warhorses

Somerset is 2-8 against Devine since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Bulldogs will host the Warhorses at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Somerset 4.1, Devine 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Devine will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Somerset extended their winning streak to four on Monday. The Bulldogs walked away with a 7-2 win over Pleasanton.

Madison Pacheco spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Izabella Sanchez was incredible, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Kourtney Rios, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4.

Sanchez wasn't the only one making solid contact: Somerset kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Devine has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 2.88 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Tuesday. They lost 10-2 to Antonian Prep. The Warhorses' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Somerset pushed their record up to 14-11 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Devine, their loss dropped their record down to 20-5.

Somerset was able to grind out a solid victory over Devine when the teams last played back in March, winning 7-4. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warhorses turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
