Basketball Recap: Aguilar Triumphs

Aguilar hasn't had much luck on the road recently (they'd lost five straight) but thanks in part to Matthew Gonzales that streak is no more. The Aguilar Wildcats breezed past the Cripple Creek-Victor Pioneers to the tune of 47-16 on Saturday for which the team can thank Gonzales, who dropped a triple-double with 20 points, ten boards, and ten blocks. That makes it seven consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Aguilar's points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxon Salapich, who posted seven points and 14 rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down nine or more in each of the last four games he's played.

Aguilar's win bumped their record up to 2-9. As for Cripple Creek-Victor, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-15.

Coming up, Aguilar will be playing in front of their home fans against La Veta at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. La Veta has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Cripple Creek-Victor has already played their next matchup (against Varsity Opponent), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
