Softball Recap: Carteret Gets the Win

Carteret proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 15) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Dunellen Destroyers 13-11. For the Ramblers, this counts as revenge for the 15-14 win the Destroyers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2018.

Daniela Portillo was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two doubles. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Miyah Knight, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Carteret is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Dunellen, they dropped their record down to 10-9 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Carteret will head out to take on South River at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Ramblers are facing the Rams at the right time seeing as the Rams are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Dunellen, they will take on Metuchen at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
