Recap: Hughes BIG RED vs. New Richmond Lions

The Hughes BIG RED had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They enjoyed a cozy 61-47 win over New Richmond on Tuesday. The win was just what Hughes needed coming off of a 70-50 defeat in their prior contest.

Hughes' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elijah Engleman, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Engleman has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played. Silas Scott was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with two steals.

Despite the loss, New Richmond still got an impressive performance from Rylan Utter, who scored 30 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Utter has scored all season.

Hughes now has a winning record of 8-7. As for New Richmond, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.

Hughes will head out on the road to face off against Newport Central Catholic at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for New Richmond, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Batavia at 7:30 p.m. Batavia knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four games -- so hopefully New Richmond likes a good challenge.
