Softball Game Preview: Calhoun City Wildcats vs. Union Yellowjackets

The Calhoun City Wildcats will head out to challenge the Union Yellowjackets at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Calhoun City is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.3 runs per game this season.

Calhoun City is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. Everything went their way against O'Bannon as they made off with a 20-0 victory. 20 seems to be a good number for the Wildcats as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

The team relied heavily on Madison Buckley, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and four runs. That's the most runs she has posted over her last 13 matches. Brooklyn Kellum was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Calhoun City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .621. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, Union waltzed into their contest on Saturday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 10-6.

Tiara Campbell was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. LaCee Bishop also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Calhoun City's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-9. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.2 runs over those games. As for Union, their record is now 19-11.

Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Calhoun City has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .496. However, it's not like Union struggles in that department as they've averaged .444. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Calhoun City couldn't quite get it done against Union in their previous matchup back in April of 2019 as they fell 6-2. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
