Baseball Recap: Jackson-Reed Beats Bell for Their Fifth Straight Win

Jackson-Reed came tearing into Wednesday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Bell Griffins get on the board and left with an 18-0 victory. That's more bragging rights for the Tigers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Lewis Lahey looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Ben Shapiro was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Tate Stadler was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4.

Jackson-Reed kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Jackson-Reed's win bumped their record up to 12-3. As for Bell, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Jackson-Reed will head out on the road to challenge DeMatha at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Stags have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season. As for Bell, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Eastern at 4:00 p.m. on the 21st.
