Softball Game Preview: Westbrook Blue Blazes vs. Deering Rams

The Westbrook Blue Blazes are taking a road trip to take on the Deering Rams at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Neither Westbrook nor Deering posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Westbrook is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maine's top teams: Cheverus, who was ranked eighth at the time (Westbrook was ranked sixth). The Blue Blazes came up short against the Stags on Monday, falling 8-1. The Blue Blazes' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Deering's offense. They lost 21-0 to South Portland on Friday.

Westbrook's loss dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Deering, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Everything went Westbrook's way against Deering in their previous meeting back in April of 2025, as Westbrook made off with a 17-4 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Blazes since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
