Basketball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Hoopeston

Hoopeston had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They skirted past the Oakwood Comets 55-53. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 59-57 last Tuesday.

Hoopeston got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Brayden Walder out in front who went 7 of 12 from beyond the arc on his way to 23 points. With that strong performance, Walder is now averaging an impressive 15.3 points per game. Another player making a difference was Trenton Montez, who went 5 for 11 en route to 12 points in addition to eight boards and six assists.

Hoopeston is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.1 points per game. As for Oakwood, their loss dropped their record down to 10-10.

Coincidentally, Hoopeston and Oakwood will both be playing Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin the next time they take the court. Oakwood will head out to face Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Hoopeston will head out to face them at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
