Battle Mountain put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They came within a single set of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Steamboat Springs Sailors. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 3-1 back in September.
It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day Battle Mountain got the one that really mattered. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 23-25, 25-18, 19-25, 15-9.
Battle Mountain was led to victory by Evie Steinberg and Riley Jennings. Steinberg had 19 digs and two aces, while Jennings had ten digs and four aces. That's the most aces Steinberg has posted since back in September.
They weren't the only good servers: Battle Mountain was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 14 aces. They served three more aces than Steamboat Springs' also-impressive total of 11.
Despite the loss, Steamboat Springs had strong showings from Macee Wettlaufer, who had 27 digs and two aces, and Sammy Coleman, who had 15 digs and two aces. Wettlaufer has been hot for a while, having posted ten or more digs the last 11 times she's played.
Battle Mountain's victory bumped their record up to 13-0. As for Steamboat Springs, their defeat ended a five-match streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-8.
Battle Mountain wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 3-1 loss against Douglas County on the 24th. As for Steamboat Springs, they have also already played their next match, a 3-0 win against Delta on the 24th.
