Football Preview: Hayfork Timberjacks vs. Chester Volcanoes
The Hayfork Timberjacks will head out to take on the Chester Volcanoes at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hayfork will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
Hayfork is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of California's top teams: South Fork, who was ranked ninth in their home state at the time (Hayfork was ranked fourth). Hayfork simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat South Fork 50-16 at home. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 28-8.
Levi Cavalli was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 236 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.4 yards per carry. He showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 55 yards. Devin Nanez handled things on the ground, rushing for 89 yards and a rushing touchdown.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Hayfork's defense and their four sacks. In that department, Hayden Trossauer was the leader with two. He is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in the last three games he's played dating back to last season.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Hayfork was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 386 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Fork only rushed for 22.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 50 points the game before, Chester was a bit more limited in their match on Saturday. They took a hard 20-6 fall against Loyalton. The Volcanoes' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Hayfork pushed their record up to 4-0 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Chester, their loss dropped their record down to 3-1.
Hayfork didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Chester in their previous matchup back in November of 2023, but they still walked away with a 26-20 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hayfork since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
