Softball Recap: Exeter Township Triumphs

Exeter Township proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by ten) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Lampeter-Strasburg Pioneers 9-7. This was payback for the Eagles, who suffered a 5-4 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Mackenzie O'Brien made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off ten hits. O'Brien was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cheyenne Boyles, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Avery Gibbons, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Exeter Township kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Exeter Township's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-10. As for Lampeter-Strasburg, their loss dropped their record down to 12-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Exeter Township will welcome Reading at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles are facing the Red KNights at the right time seeing as the Red KNights are stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Lampeter-Strasburg, they will host Elizabethtown at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
