Softball Game Preview: Foothills Christian Knights vs. Santa Fe Christian Eagles

Foothills Christian hasn't had much luck against Santa Fe Christian recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Knights will challenge the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Neither Foothills Christian nor Santa Fe Christian posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

On Monday, Foothills Christian came up short against Coastal Academy and fell 5-1.

Emma Romeka spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Foothills Christian saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kenzie Gomez, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Meanwhile, Santa Fe Christian fell victim to Escondido Charter and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers. The Eagles haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Torin Bennett was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over six innings pitched.

Santa Fe Christian's loss dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Foothills Christian, they now have a losing record of 6-7.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Foothills Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Santa Fe Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Foothills Christian couldn't quite finish off Santa Fe Christian in their previous meeting back in April and fell 4-2. Can the Knights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
