Baseball Recap: Sweetwater Wins Going Away Against Hoover

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Brentwood School, Sweetwater was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Hoover Cardinals with a sharp 10-4 victory. The win continues a trend for the Red Devils in their matchups with the Cardinals: they've now won eight in a row.

Luis Castro made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched six innings while giving up four earned runs off nine hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Sweetwater is undefeated when he allows at most two walks, but 2-5 otherwise. Castro was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jayden Rodriguez, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Vidal, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3.

Sweetwater now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Hoover, they are on a 19-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-14.

Sweetwater has already played their next game, a 7-3 victory against Crawford on the 4th. As for Hoover, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 6-4 defeat against Mount Miguel on the 9th.
