Basketball Recap: West Mesa Comes Up Short

West Mesa was the 62-59 winner over Highland when they last played one another back in January of 2025, but their luck changed this time around. The matchup between the Mustangs and the Hornets didn't end well, with the Mustangs falling 75-60. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Highland's win on Saturday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nico Sanchez, who almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine assists. Sanchez has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Jerry Moody was another key player, dropping a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds.

West Mesa's defeat dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Highland, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Mesa will square off against Los Lunas at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup will give the Mustangs their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Highland, they will take on Del Norte at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Sanchez and Francois Satchivi.
