Football Recap: Arleta Takes Down Huntington Park in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Arleta walked away with it. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 35-32 win over the Huntington Park Spartans on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Mustangs have posted since August 22nd.

Arleta's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jose Rosas led the charge by rushing for 198 yards and three TDs while picking up 11.0 yards per carry. Rosas was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 65 yards. Another receiver making a difference was Ethan Lillingston, who picked up 188 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Arleta was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 283 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 158 rushing yards in 15 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Arleta has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 12.8 points on average over those games. As for Huntington Park, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-9.
