Volleyball Recap: Oxnard Comes Up Short

Oxnard lost against Westlake back in September of 2018, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Yellowjackets fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 3-2.

In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Oxnard sadly dropped the once that decided the match. The final score came out to 25-15, 21-25, 25-18, 19-25, 15-12.

Leilah McDougald paced Oxnard's offense, picking up nine kills. McDougald got some help from Maya Cunningham and her 34 assists. Finally, McDougald was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high seven blocks.

Oxnard's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Westlake, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oxnard will head out to challenge Del Sol at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Westlake, they will take on Dos Pueblos at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
