Basketball Recap: Sahuarita's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

Sahuarita lost against Nogales back in February of 2016 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Sahuarita Mustangs lost to the Nogales Apaches at home by a 54-40 margin. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 143rd, while the Apaches are ranked 45th).

When it comes to explaining why Sahuarita lost, don't look at Emma Benitez. Despite the final result, she posted 13 points. Another player making a difference was Abby Silvester, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 boards.

Even though they lost, Sahuarita smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Cecilia Burruel was her usual excellent self, going 6 of 11 on her way to 17 points for Nogales. The team also got some help courtesy of Arlette Munoz, who had ten points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Sahuarita moved to 3-6 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Nogales, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Sahuarita didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 52-42 loss against Cactus Shadows on the 14th. As for Nogales, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 55-27 win against Canyon del Oro on the 16th.
