Basketball Recap: Grand Terrace's Higher State Rank on Full Display on Saturday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Viewpoint, Grand Terrace was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They took down the Schurr Spartans 66-49. Given the Titans' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 271st, while the Spartans are ranked 955th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Deisyn Payne was his usual excellent self, putting up 23 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Reggie Caldwell, who posted 13 points.

Grand Terrace has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.0 points per game. As for Schurr, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-11.

Grand Terrace and Aliso Niguel will round out the year against one another at on Monday. Aliso Niguel has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 209 points over their last three contests. As for Schurr, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on San Gabriel at 5:00 p.m. on January 13, 2025.
