Soccer Game Preview: Kearney vs. Grand Island

The Kearney Bearcats will venture away from home to face off against the Grand Island Islanders at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Kearney is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.

On Wednesday, Kearney needed a bit of extra time to put away Lincoln Southeast. They won by a goal and slipped past the Knights 2-1.

Aiden Nutter was the driving force of Kearney's attack as he scored both of Kearney's goals, bringing his season total up to eight goals.

Meanwhile, after soaring to four goals the game before, Grand Island was a bit more limited in their matchup on Friday. They came up short against Lincoln East, falling 3-0. Grand Island fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against Lincoln East since on Friday.

Kearney's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2. As for Grand Island, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season.

Kearney might still be hurting after the 3-0 defeat they got from Grand Island when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Bearcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
