Volleyball Recap: Berkeley Takes a Loss

Berkeley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 3-0 to the San Leandro Pirates. The Yellowjackets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pirates apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

The 3-0 score doesn't really reflect how close the match was: every set was decided by three points or less. The final score came out to 26-24, 25-22, 25-22.

Satchel Room paced Berkeley's offense, picking up 15 kills. Room got some help from Sebastian Chen-McDermott and his 30 assists. Chen-McDermott was also solid from the service line: he led the team with three aces.

Berkeley's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for San Leandro, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-5.

Berkeley and San Leandro could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Berkeley will face off against Junipero Serra at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday down 321 places (602 vs. 281). Meanwhile, San Leandro (ranked 274th) will meet Bishop O'Dowd (ranked 117th) at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday.
