Football Recap: West Field Takes Down Viewmont in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but West Field had no problem doing just that on Friday. They came out on top against the Viewmont Vikings by a score of 41-34. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Longhorns' offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

A big part of West Field's win came down to the chemistry between Easton Eilertson and his top target Gavin Ortegon. Eilertson threw for 240 yards and four touchdowns while completing 74.3% of his passes while Ortegon picked up 111 receiving yards and four TDs. Ortegon is becoming a predictor of West Field's success: when he posts at least 100 receiving yards the team is 5-1 (and 2-3 when he doesn't). A healthy portion of Eilertson's aerial production (91 yards to be exact) also went to Kolt Abbott.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something West Field proved: they limited Viewmont to a paltry 1.7 yards per carry. The Longhorns' ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.1.

West Field's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Viewmont, they dropped their record down to 4-7 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Coming up, West Field will square off against Box Elder at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Viewmont does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
