Softball Game Preview: Holy Cross Lancers vs. Westampton Tech Panthers

The Holy Cross Lancers will venture away from home to challenge the Westampton Tech Panthers at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday.

Holy Cross is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Haddon Heights just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Garnets.

Jamie Dunn was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, Lilly Whitaker made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.

Meanwhile, Westampton Tech entered their tilt with Doane Academy on Wednesday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They were the clear victors by a 23-6 margin over Doane Academy. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won four games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Westampton Tech's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-4. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Holy Cross, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.

Holy Cross couldn't quite finish off Westampton Tech when the teams last played on April 9th and fell 5-3. Can the Lancers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
