Hopewell-Loudon had lost five straight headed into Tuesday's contest, but Maddie Holcomb didn't let it get to six. The Chieftains came out on top against Woodmore by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday with plenty of help from Holcomb, who had 24 digs and one assist. She is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 13 or more in each of the last eight games she's played.
The victory didn't come easy: Woodmore scored at least 20 points in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 25-22, 21-25, 25-21.
Meanwhile, New Riegel was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Gibsonburg. While the Blue Jackets didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Golden Bears 25-17 in the first set.
New Riegel started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 17-25, 25-12, 25-19, 25-20.
New Riegel's loss dropped their record down to 6-15. As for Hopewell-Loudon, their win bumped their record up to 7-13.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's matchup: Hopewell-Loudon has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 6.6 aces per game. However, it's not like New Riegel struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.1 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Hopewell-Loudon came out on top in a nail-biter against New Riegel in their previous matchup back in September, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chieftains since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
